ZooParc mourns loss of spider monkey Quasimodo

Very sad news from ZooParc Overloon: spider monkey Quasimodo has been very sick the last week. The caretakers and veterinarian have tried everything to help him recover, but unfortunately to no avail. Therefore it was decided to put him out of his misery.

Quasimodo was about 33 years old, which is very old for a spider monkey. Animals in the wild live up to 30 years, in zoos they can live up to 40-45 years. We are glad that, despite his troublesome past (once he was kept as a pet in South America), he still had a pleasant time with us. Although, of course, we would have liked to have had him with us longer. We are going to miss this sweetheart immensely!
