ZooParc mourns death of white tiger Rama
Sad news, as the white tiger Rama has passed away. The animal had been suffering from health problems for some time. The caretakers noticed that Rama had less appetite and was no longer alert. In consultation with the veterinarian, it was decided not to let the animal suffer any longer. Rama lived to be 11 years old.
Rama has lived with Asia in ZooParc since 2015. Asia is now the only white tiger in the park. This is not a bad thing: tigers are in fact solitary animals by nature, which means they like to live alone.
Because of the poor genetics of white tigers, they do not survive in the wild. Therefore, from the European management program, an extinction policy has been instituted. It means that animals of this species are no longer allowed to have offspring, so the white tiger will eventually no longer be seen in European zoos.
In the spring, a new resident is expected in the enclosure. On the advice of the management program, a female Amur tiger arrives from Sweden.
