ZooParc Overloon participates in National Open Beekeeper Day

In ZooParc Overloon on Sunday, July 10, volunteers from beekeepers association Ambrosius will come by to tell and show everything about beekeeping. They will do this as part of the National Open Beekeeping Day.

This is the first time ZooParc has participated in this event. The purpose of the Open Beekeeping Day is for everyone to experience the keeping of honey bees up close. Beekeepers on this day explain what honey bees are, the function of these animals in nature and how and why the people make honey. They will also tell how this honey is harvested by beekeepers.

Roel Huibers, general manager of ZooParc, says: "We think it is important not only to contribute to the preservation of animal species from afar, but also of animals from nearby. For example, we have special insect plants in our park to attract butterflies, bees and other insects."

Ambrosius Beekeepers Association
Beekeeping Society Ambrosius consists of members who practice beekeeping on a hobby basis. For them, it is more than an everyday hobby, with a variety of pursuits: for example, they make their own hives, breed queens, sling honey and cast wax candles. To ZooParc, they bring a hive with pictures showing life in a hive. It is also possible to taste honey.
