Increase in German visitors thanks to cooperation Tiergarten Kleve
This year's cooperation between ZooParc and Tiergarten Kleve (Kleve Zoo) brought the Overloon zoo significantly more German visitors: their numbers increased from 20 to 25 percent of the total number of guests.
The goal of the cooperation was to encourage each other's visitors to also take a look at the park across the border. Thus ZooParc season ticket holders received a discount on a day ticket for Tiergarten Kleve, and vice versa. Also, two buses with the slogan "On Adventure" will be driving around the region until May, intended to inspire people to visit both parks.
"We can definitely say that this was a successful collaboration," says Roel Huibers, ZooParc's General Manager. "We are close to the border here. Animals don't care about this - they walk up and down between the two countries undisturbed, we as humans need to do the same a lot more. It is therefore really nice to notice that more and more people from Germany know how to find us and more Dutch people are also heading that way from Overloon and the surrounding area for a nice day out."
Education
In the area of education, joint projects were also organized to increase the educational role of the zoos. One of the initiatives for this was a cross zoo bingo, in which participants had to visit both parks to fill up the card. "Education is one of the four main tasks of a modern zoo," said Klever zoo director Martin Polotzek. "The bingo allowed children to playfully explore our parks and learn many new things about the animals and the projects we support to conserve these species and their habitats."
In addition, the cooperation also gave employees of both parks a chance to share knowledge and exchange experiences. Says Polotzek, "Since ZooParc Overloon keeps a number of animal species as part of our master plan that will continue to live in Kleve in the coming years, these company outings were very interesting."
Collaboration
The collaboration between the two parks, under the name "On Adventure" was
made possible by the Interreg Program Deutschland-Nederland with its program partners and co-financed by the European Union (EU).
