Two fossas born in ZooParc Overloon

The new wine event ZooVino at ZooParc Overloon raised 3274 euros for two conservation projects in Asia. A total of 224 participants enjoyed wine and food with views of animals such as giraffes, penguins and flamingos on 6 July.

The event was organised by ZooParc volunteers, who are also responsible for Dinner at the Zoo and the Schemertours. ‘This was completely selfless: we as a zoo did not earn anything from this,’ says a proud Roel Huibers, general manager of the Overloon zoo. ‘It is so nice to see how committed our volunteers and staff are to the animals, here in the park and in nature. And that an event is then also such a success is then the icing on the cake.

Wildlife Foundation

After deducting costs, all proceeds were donated to Stichting Wildlife, an organisation dedicated to the conservation of animals and their habitats at home and abroad. The money will benefit the two projects at the centre of ZooParc this year: the Red Panda Network and S.P.E.C.I.E.S, an organisation working for predators around the world, including the clouded leopard. A total of 20,341 euros has already been raised by volunteers for these causes since January.

ZooParc collaborated with Boompjes Restaurant from Overloon for this event. This restaurant also provided the snacks that accompanied each course. Participants could try six wines at different expedition areas in the park during ZooVino. These areas always focus on a particular region of the world, such as South America, Australia and Africa. The wines served, with or without alcohol, also came from these countries or or areas.

According to Huibers, it will definitely not stop at this one time. ‘We thought it was a very successful event and are therefore already looking forward to the next edition.’
