ZooParc has said goodbye to beloved resident
ZooParc has had to say goodbye to Siberian tiger Bart. This beloved resident passed away on April 20.
Bart, who had been living in ZooParc with his sister Leela since 2016, was nearly eighteen years old and had been struggling with health issues for some time. In the wild, tigers live to be about 12 to 15 years old, and in zoos, tigers rarely live past 18. Leela died last November.
Head zookeeper Steven van den Heuvel says: "Shortly after Leela died, Bart had to get used to the new situation. After this he luckily picked himself up, but the last few weeks he deteriorated rapidly. However, he did manage to enjoy the spring sunshine recently."
"Bart was a signature resident of ZooParc for the past five years, and he was much loved by visitors," Van den Heuvel knows. "So he will certainly be missed."
