Construction of cloud leopard enclosure at ZooParc started, other work completed

Construction of the nebulous leopard's enclosure has begun. With the relocation of the crab-eating raccoons to a new enclosure, the first steps have been taken for the arrival of the species. The cloud leopard is expected to arrive later this year. Many other works in the park have also been completed.

Meanwhile, the old enclosure of the raccoons has been demolished, the pruning work is finished and the foundations of the enclosure are currently being installed.

The crab-eating raccoons have moved to a new enclosure in expedition area Madidi. Head zookeeper Steven van den Heuvel: "The animals fit better in this area where the nature of South America is central and where the animals originally lived." Currently, the crab-eating raccoons are still getting used to the enclosure. Soon they will be visible to visitors.

Lion Stay
In addition, the lion enclosure received a refurbishment when the animals were unable to enter the outside enclosure due to flooding. Van den Heuvel: "An extra platform was installed, the hide was replaced and trees were planted to provide extra shade in the summer. The car on which the lions like to sunbathe has also been replaced."

The old Jeep was sold, to great media interest, for 750 euros. The proceeds will go to various projects of Stichting Wildlife. General manager Roel Huibers: "It's really super that ZooParc is allowed to contribute to protecting nature in a playful way."

Playground
The playground at Headquarter is complete after adding some play equipment. Says Huibers, "The new play equipment is all a little lower to the ground, which ensures that the little ones can now have fun too."
