Brabant zoos do well
Safaripark Beekse Bergen, Dierenrijk and ZooParc Overloon are particularly pleased with the high visitor numbers this summer. The three zoos in Brabant owe the rising visitor numbers to the arrival of new species, young animals and high guest orientation, among other things.
Record number of visitors for ZooParc Overloon
ZooParc Overloon received a record number of visitors last week: 6,312 people visited the park. Considerable investments have been made here since the takeover by Libéma. For example, the park got a whole new (Expedition) theme and welcomed tigers and lions last spring. The park has also once again become a member of the Dutch Association of Zoos (NVD). Membership of the NVD is a hallmark for zoos and important for cooperation in the field of breeding programs, housing, sharing experience, etc.
Rising trend in visitor numbers
Dierenrijk (over 9,500 visitors between Aug. 8 and 14) received a lot of attention due to the recent birth of the polar bear twins. In addition, a chimpanzee enclosure opened here this year. In Safaripark Beekse Bergen, which attracted nearly 38,000 visitors in the same week, a baby elephant was born earlier this year and the completely new sloth bear enclosure will be opened on August 24.
The increasing number of visitors also appears to be a positive development outside Brabant. Sjors van den Boogaart, Divisional Director Attraction and Holiday Parks at Libéma: "We see this increase not only at our zoos in Brabant, but also at AquaZoo Friesland since the arrival of polar bears and sea lions, among others. Both AquaZoo Friesland and ZooParc Overloon were acquired by Libéma a year ago, and partly due to the investments in new animal enclosures and guest orientation, we are currently seeing visitor numbers double."
