The female Greek land tortoise lays her eggs in a hole in the ground. This keeps the eggs well warm. The temperature of the eggs determines whether a male or female will hatch. The warmer, the more females hatch!
When a Greek land tortoise is four years old, its shell has hardened completely. This gives him a good armor in which he can retreat when in danger. Forest fires, cars and poachers remain a threat to these animals.
