Small but fine

The Egyptian land tortoise is one of the smallest land tortoises in the world. Males grow no taller than 10 centimeters. Females are slightly larger; about 15 centimeters. Because they are small, they are less noticeable to predators. They also have good camouflage that helps them do this!

Disappeared

Egyptian land turtles live in the wild in..... No, not in Egypt but in Libya. Not so long ago, they also lived in Egypt. There, these tortoises have now all disappeared. This is because they are caught a lot to be sold as pets. If this trade continues there will soon be no Egyptian tortoises left in the wild in Libya either.
