The Alaotrabamboemaki is very picky. It eats only four different types of plants: two types of grass, including the cocksfoot, roots of reeds and the interior of papyrus cane.
To move through the reed beds in which he lives, he climbs a reed stalk until it bends over. He stays on it until he can reach the next stem, to which he then jumps.
