Volunteers at ZooParc Overloon raise record amount
The volunteers of Stichting Wildlife at ZooParc Overloon got some good news on Saturday, September 16. Through tireless efforts, they have already raised more money this year than last year's total: a record! The unsuspecting volunteers were told the fantastic news during a bi-monthly meeting and were treated to cake.
Stichting Wildlife is committed to various conservation projects. The volunteers organize various activities in the park to raise money, including exclusive tours and after-hours dinners.
Volunteer coordinator of ZooParc Overloon Niels Meboer: "We already knew that the volunteers of Stichting Wildlife work so hard year in and year out for the foundation. Last year, of course, they raised a fantastic record amount of 20,000 euros for World Land Trust Paraguay. And this year we are already over that!"
Save our African Wildlife
Proceeds from the additional activities organized this year will go to three conservation projects within the Save our African Wildlife theme. The amount will benefit the protection of the pygmy hippopotamus (Institution of Breeding Rare and Endangered Mammals), the Mhorrgazelle (Sahara Conservation Fund) and the African wild dog (Biodiversity Conservation Organization).
Meboer: "It is inevitable that we will reach the target amount of 25,000 euros this year. The Schemertours and Dinner at the Zoo have helped raise most of this amount. For the last 5,000 euros, the volunteers will still be actively working on selling key chains and bracelets in the park."
