Ranger for the classroom: North Brabant zoos offer online lessons

Mierlo/Overloon, March 20, 2020 -ZooParc Overloon and Dierenrijk in Mierlo have jointly put together a teaching program for children who are now being educated at home. With this, the zoos hope to provide an educational supplement.

At ZooParc Overloon, two zookeepers will be vlogging three times a week about what goes into running a zoo. "Now that children cannot come to the zoo, we want to bring the zoo to the children," says ZooParc Overloon general manager Roel Huibers.

Topics could include a look in the kitchen, joining the veterinarian or a demonstration on how to clean an animal enclosure. Again, children themselves can indicate what they would like to see.

CreativesChildren who like crafts can visit Dierenrijk. This zoo from Mierlo will offer children an activity three times a week, ranging from a fun quiz to a creative challenge, in which participants are asked to craft an animal or make a diorama, for example. In addition, the zoo provides tips for investigations they can conduct at home in their backyard or on their own street.

"Due to the measures surrounding the fight against the coronavirus, we are closed until further notice. Therefore, it is nice to be able to still offer children activities this way."
