Birth wave during fertile spring at ZooParc Overloon

Overloon, May 5, 2023 - Seven young animals were born to three animal species at ZooParc Overloon in the spring. Also, the sex of the white-faced lemur born in February is now known.

Four Asian clawed otters, one camel and two red giant kangaroos were born. The young offspring are doing well.

The four young Asian clawed otters are currently still in the nest box, where they will stay for about a month and a half and they can take a look outside any time. Of all otter species, the Asian clawed otter is the most social and they live in fixed groups in which they communicate with squeaking sounds and scents.

The gestation period of the red giant kangaroo is 33 days. The underdeveloped kangaroo cub then crawls to the mother's pouch, where it remains for eight months before emerging. Inside the pouch is the nipple the mother uses to feed the young.

The young camel is now two months old and its gender is known. It is a girl.

Gender white-faced lemur
The white-faced lemur born in February is a male. The monkey species is born with the same colors as its mother, so the youngster does not stand out to enemies in the wild. After two to three months, if it is a male, a white face appears. If it is a female, animal retains two vertical white stripes across the head. Head of animal care Steven van den Heuvel: "Just under three months after the birth of the white-faced lemur, we can say with certainty that it is a male!"
